Kite in Gran Canaria
Kitesurfing in Gran Canaria is the best option. Gran Canaria is a kitesurfing paradise as the average number of windy days per year is 4 out of 5. With this average it is highly unlikely that the wind will let you down after you’ve spent a lot of money on tickets, meals, accommodation, etc…
Imagine you are not able to finish the course or,worse, you stay on the beach every day waiting for the wind without even having the chance to try this sport after spending all that money and vacation time.
Our geographical position blesses us with the presence of trade winds during the whole year. However, when these winds do not make an appearance and it blows from another direction, we always have a beach to kite in Gran Canaria because the island is round. Even the days when the wind speed forecasts are not high, due to our terrain, it produces the ”cost” effect, this effect accelerates the wind by compression and as a result we always have a much higher windmarking than forecasts and statistics say.
In addition, Gran Canaria is famous for its mild climate. In fact, in summer the average temperature is between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius and in winter drops to only 22 or 24 degrees.
Although the chances that the wind makes an appearance are very high, in the worst case, Gran Canaria offers many other possibilities for you to enjoy your holiday like to try other sports such as bodyboarding, surfing, paddle surf, wakeboard, diving, mountain biking, skydiving, paragliding, bungee jumping, paintball wars, golf, hiking and many more …
On the other hand, for the not so athletic, Gran Canaria offers a variety of attractions and places to visit. It also has many shopping centers and activities including racing carts, movies, theater, concerts and nightlife that you can´t find on the other islands.
You can also soak in our culture by visiting many villages and tasting our cuisine, and feel the uniqueness of our microclimates that offer you the chance to sunbathe on the beach or take a cool ride through the countryside on the same day.

WIND STATISTICS TO CONSIDER TO KITE IN GRAN CANARIA

NOTE: Keep in mind that the intensity of the wind on the beaches you kite in Gran Canaria is always greater than the Gando buoy marking, apart from that there are many days that the wind blows at other beaches, not being counted in the statistics.

In the following graph we can see that Gran Canaria has the highest intensity and most days of wind in Spain.
NOTE: The beaches of La Gomera are steep and rocky and the wind is too gusty to practice Kite safely. On the other hand, the probability of wind in Tarifa, (2nd windiest place in the rest of Spain), is 53% and the average intensity of 12 knots, well below the statistics of Gran Canaria.
